VEX IQ - Overview

Grades 4-6

The VEX IQ Challenge consists of the VEX IQ Challenge robot game and the optional STEM Research Project, and online challenges. The VEX IQ Challenge provides an opportunity for students, with the guidance of an adult mentor, to explore and solve exciting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) challenges.

Students develop valuable knowledge, skills, and experience a tremendous sense of accomplishment by building and programming a robot to solve the VEX IQ Challenge.

2018 Fall VEX IQ League

Open to all Jenison Elementary Students who are in grades 4-6

  • Practices start in September
  • "League night" will be every other Monday starting in October, and ending mid-December
  • Jenison IQ Tournament will be Saturday December 8th

Congratulations to our 2016/2017 teams!

13 Jenison Elementary Teams competed at the State Championships in February 2017 - more than any program in the state!

5 of those teams moved on to compete at the World Championships in April 2017, with 272 other teams from all over the world, split into 4 divisions.

  • "Smart Sharks" from Bursley Elementary won 3rd place in their division.
  • "Orange Crush" from Rosewood Elementary also won 3rd place in their division.
  • "Red Warriors" from Rosewood won the "Create Award" in their division for a robot design that incorporates a creative engineering solution.
  • "Vicious & Delicious" from Sandy Hill Elementary finished just outside of the competition finals in 26th
  • "Shadow Cats" from Rosewood Elementary finished in 38th among the best teams in the world in their division.

Congratulations to our 2015/2016 teams!

Congratulations to the Jenison Robotics VEX IQ teams who participated in the Michigan State championship on February 27, 2016 in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Here are the results.

  • Team 2405A - “Geeks for the Win” from Pinewood came in 22nd place overall
  • Team 1990D - “Ender Dragons” from Sandy Hill came in 21st place overall
  • Team 1195B - “Praying Mantises” from Bursley came in 6th in the finals
  • Team 2370A - “The Mindcrafters” from Rosewood came in 4th in the finals
  • Team 1443A - “The A team” from Bauerwood came in 3rd in the finals
And last, but not least, Team 2370B came in 1st place in the final round. This earned them an invitation to the VEX World Championship tournament in Louisville, KY in April 2016.
